8 Weeks Before Moving

- Create a budget for your move
- Start decluttering room by room
- Begin using up frozen foods and pantry items
6 Weeks Before Moving
Booking & Preparation
- Book your moving company
- Notify your landlord if renting
- Start collecting free boxes from local stores
- Order specialty boxes for fragile items
- Create an inventory of valuable items
4 Weeks Before Moving
Utilities & Address Changes
- Notify utilities of your move date
- Set up utilities at your new address
- File a change of address with USPS
- Update address with banks, subscriptions, and insurance
- Begin packing non-essential items

You can file a change of address online at usps.com. It typically takes 7-10 days to process, so do this early!
2 Weeks Before Moving
Final Preparations
- Confirm details with your moving company
- Pack most of your belongings
- Arrange care for pets and children on moving day
- Prepare an essentials box for the first night
Pro Tip
Your essentials box should include: toiletries, phone chargers, a change of clothes, medications, important documents, snacks, basic tools, and toilet paper. Label it clearly and keep it with you, not on the moving truck.
